The right venue size makes or breaks an event. Too small and guests feel cramped; too large and it feels empty. UK event planning guidelines suggest 1.5-2 square metres per standing guest and 2.5-3 square metres per seated guest including table space.
Dance floors should accommodate about 30-40% of your guests at any one time, with roughly 0.5 square metres per dancer. For outdoor events, marquee sizing follows similar rules but you also need to account for entrances, buffet areas, and a bar.
UK licensing and health and safety regulations require adequate toilet facilities for events. As a general guide, plan for 1 portable toilet per 100 guests for a short event (under 6 hours) or 1 per 50 guests for longer events. Our calculators help you plan every aspect of your venue.
