How much cheese per person?

For a cheese course after dinner: 80-100g per person. For cheese as a main feature (wine & cheese party): 150-200g per person. For a cheese board as part of a buffet: 50-80g per person. These are total weights across all cheese types.

How many types of cheese should I serve?

Serve 3-5 types for the best variety: a hard cheese (cheddar, Comté), a soft cheese (brie, camembert), a blue cheese (stilton), and optionally a goat's cheese and something unusual. Label each cheese for guests.

What accompaniments do I need?

Crackers (2-3 types), bread or oatcakes, grapes, celery, chutney (1 jar per 15 guests), honey, walnuts, and dried fruit. Allow 3-4 crackers per person per cheese type. Arrange on large wooden boards for the best presentation.

How far in advance can I prepare a cheese board?

Remove cheese from the fridge 1 hour before serving - room temperature cheese has much better flavour. Assemble the board 30 minutes before serving. Pre-slice some cheese but leave some whole for presentation. Cover with cling film until serving.
