How do I distribute guests evenly across tables?

Divide total guests by number of tables. If there is a remainder, some tables will have one extra guest. For example, 50 guests across 6 tables gives 8 per table with 2 remaining, so 4 tables of 8 and 2 tables of 9.

What is the minimum number of guests per table?

Avoid tables with fewer than 4 guests as it can feel awkward and empty. Round tables designed for 8 look sparse with only 3-4 people. If you have a small group left over, combine them with another table rather than seating them alone.

What if the numbers do not divide evenly?

Uneven tables are perfectly normal. Having a mix of table sizes (e.g., some tables of 8 and some of 9) is standard practice at any event. Place the larger tables closer to the centre or dance floor where the extra energy helps.

Should I account for the top table separately?

Yes. Remove top table guests from your total before calculating the distribution for remaining tables. The top table usually has a fixed composition (hosts, VIPs, family) so it should be planned separately.
