Champagne Calculator — Bottles for Toasts & Celebrations
Work out how many bottles of champagne or prosecco you need for toasts, receptions, and celebrations.
How We Calculate This
This calculator estimates champagne or prosecco quantities based on the type of occasion.
The formula
Total glasses = guests x glasses per occasion type
Bottles = total glasses / 6
A toast needs 1 glass per person. A reception needs 2-3 glasses over 1-2 hours. A full evening of champagne needs about 5 glasses per guest. Each 75cl bottle pours 6 flute glasses at 125ml.
Frequently Asked Questions
A standard 75cl bottle of champagne or prosecco pours 6 flute glasses at 125ml each. A magnum (1.5L) pours 12 glasses.
For a toast, you need just 1 glass per guest. That is about 1 bottle per 6 guests. For 50 guests, you need approximately 9 bottles.
Prosecco is an excellent alternative and much more affordable. A good prosecco costs £8-15 per bottle compared to £30+ for champagne. Most guests cannot tell the difference at a busy party.
Pre-pour glasses on trays before the toast rather than opening bottles individually. This is much faster. Allow about 5 minutes to pour for every 30 glasses. Chill bottles to 8-10°C.
